enfocada a los pa첥s en desarrollo.
This year: Joint conference AGSE 2010 and JINIS 2010
at Universidad Catolica de Santa Maria in Arequipa, Peru, August, 3 - 6, 2010.
.
Thanks for AGSE 2010 / Muchas gracias por AGSE 2010!
AGSE 2010 is over - more than 100 registered participants, 27 presentations, 5 keynotes, 7 workshops. We would like to thank all participants of the AGSE 2010 Conference in Arequipa for joining us for five wonderful days, filled with plenary
presentations, workshops, fruitful discussions,
and the opportunities to meet friends, and to make new acquaintances.
Thanks to Universidad Catolica de Santa Maria and the colleagues there for providing such a beautiful venue and working environment.
The conference has received tremendous support from this University, and Prof Cesar Beltran takes real care to see that the participants and well taken care
of, and the food is simply overwhelming to say the least!
The infrastructure is great, the auditorium is superb, and the
workshops have been really successful in the two computer labs
of the systems engineering department.
We hope to see you back soon at the next AGSE conference and summer school in Nairobi, August 2010.

- Prof. Dr. H. Lehmk Geostatistics - an Introduction
The tutorial "Geostatistics -- An Introduction" is meant to motivate further dealing with the issue. After explaining the specialty of spatial statistics a first completely regular data set is considered. Here ESRI's ArcGIS GeospatialAnalyst is used and demonstrated as one of several tools of analysis. While descriptive statistics foundations are simple and clear an important and somehow strange issue will be the spatial self-similarity of measured quantities or expressively correlation. A second data set consisting of several irregularly and differently distributed quantities points out some important questions of estimation. Such questions deal with representative mean values or distributions. The estimation of point values (interpolation) or larger block values follows. The kriging method for interpolation is addressed. A final view is laid upon the theory of cokriging where unmeasured quantities are derived from measured ones. The tutorial is also preparatory for the workshop "R for geospatial analysis".
- Prof. Dr. D. Schr: "R" for Spatial Analysis
R is an open-source environment for statistical computing and visualisation. It is based on the S language developed at Bell Laboratories in the 1980's, and is the product of an active movement among statisticians for a powerful, programmable, portable, and open computing environment, applicable to the most complex and sophisticated problems, as well as "routine" analysis, without any restrictions on access or use.
There are a number of packages for R to analyze spatial data. In the workshop a short general introduction into R is given. It is shown how geo data - vector as well raster - is loaded into R. In a first example kriging is used to interpolate point data using the gstat package. In a second example the spatstat package is used for point pattern analysis.
