The presented study describes how GIS education takes importance in the context of a distance post graduated program in Latin America. The program structure and curriculum can be read at www.unigis.edu.ec. Our objective reflects based upon real numbers the characteristics of professionals, study activities and the applications where SIG is being used. In this context an interesting compilation of information to future learning models, actual programs, regarding GIS and the management of geospatial information with geo-technologies in Latin America is presented.
